My Mid-Year Progress Update
At the beginning of this year, as I always do, I set three goals for myself that I wanted to accomplish this year. They were:
- Reduce my hours at Apptical
- Buy a house
- Get back to playing piano.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know that my husband and I accomplished the second goal — we bought a house and we’re currently in the process of getting moved into it. I still want to accomplish the other two goals, and in this post I’ll discuss my plan for how I’m going to do that.
Reduce my hours at Apptical
I’m currently full-time there — I’d like to go back to working part-time so I can concentrate more on writing and other things that I want to do, especially now that I’m a homeowner. At this point I’m still trying to figure out how I can swing this. One thing I’ve been trying to do is increase my writing income so I can cover at least some of my expenses with it. I’ve also started working another part-time job with Lionbridge — I’m working on different transcription projects for them, and I enjoy the work because I’m not on the phone — I just have to listen to recordings and either transcribe them or correct transcriptions that were entered previously. I’ve also been working on trying to make more money from writing.
Buy a house
As I mentioned earlier, I did accomplish this one this month. We closed on the house on June 9th, we’re currently in the process of moving in. We’ve been working on getting things packed up and throwing out or getting rid of things we don’t need.
Get back to playing piano
This is another one I haven’t accomplished yet, but hope to by the end of this year, once we’re completely moved in and have everything set up the way we want it. In the meantime, I have been looking at the kind of piano I want. I know I want a digital one that I can do virtual lessons on, I’m just trying to find one I like that’s in my price range, and come up with a plan for starting to get back to practicing. I did look into a few sites for virtual lessons that I found on the website virtualpiano.net, I may use one of them once I find a piano or keyboard I like.
That’s my goals review for the year. My plan for the rest of the year is to keep working on finding ways to make money so I can at least reduce the number of hours I work at Apptical. I do have some other things in the works, I’ll be writing about them in future Medium posts.
