Stretching Myself

It’s important to stretch yourself both physically and in your personal life!

So it’s 12/31/17 already — hard to believe! This has been a good year for me, all things considered. I started the year with three goals:
1. Reduce my hours at Apptical
2. Buy a house.
3. Get back to playing piano

I only accomplished one of these goals, but it was definitely the biggest one — my husband and I bought a house in June. Since then, we’ve been very busy with different tasks around the house. In the time since we bought the house, we’ve had a fence built, put a building in the back and bought some new furniture. We’re also in the process of doing some other things, but the progress on those tasks is a little slower.

Because Kevin and I have been busy with the house, the other two goals became less important. I still want to find some way to make more money, whether I get a new day job, get a raise at my current day job, or do more writing on the side. For 2017, I’ve made approximately 17,537.90 between my day job and my writing. For 2018 I’d like to increase that number by 10%. That would bring me up to $19,290 between the two. I’m not sure exactly how I’ll do this, but I do have a few goals I’d like to accomplish to make this happen. I’m currently working on my first writing contest submission, which is a short memoir called “Why I Stood by My Mother When she Died.” You can read the draft I’ve written here:

I’m also looking into writing for other websites, and I want to start finding some private writing clients.

Here are some other goals I’m working on for 2018:

Increase the number of books I read by 20%

I’ve read 10 books this year, and am working on two others — “Sully” and “The Magic.” If I make my goal to increase the number of books I read by 20%, that will bring me up to 12 books that I have to read for 2018. I have a Scribd subscription in addition to my Amazon Prime membership, plus I can use my Echo Dot to read some of my books to me, so it should be fairly easy for me to finish 15 books in 2018.

Get my weight back down under 120 pounds

My weight has crept back up to 130 pounds since I moved into the new house. I’d like to get it back down to 120 pounds, maybe a little less. I’ve been trying to do that by using different Beachbody exercise programs. I just finished P90x 3 and Shaun Week, which is a week of workouts from Shaun T’s different workout programs (for those who have no idea what I’m talking about, check out the Beachbody website, www.beachbody.com). I want to try stretching myself with my workouts by trying workout programs that have more intense exercises. A lot of Shaun T’s workouts are definitely intense, and I’ve gotten good results from them in the past. I also want to try a few other Beachbody workout programs, Core de Force and PiYo. My husband also got me a workout bench to use to do different exercises, so I’ll also work that into my workouts.

Those are my three main goals for 2018. I hope these goals will help me stretch myself in all areas of my life. As the year progresses, I will provide updates on my progress.
