This is a great story — it brought back memories of my own mother’s passing. My mother was also diagnosed with cancer in the 1990s, but she died much quicker than yours. Your story describes almost to a T what my mother’s passing was like — just a weeks earlier she had been sitting up, somewhat alert and still able to carry on a conversation with me. When I came home a few weeks later, she was very different — hardly unable to communicate, in a hospital bed, etc — all the same things you described. It’s good that you’ve been able to visit her grave a few times. I got to visit my mother’s grave a few times too in the first year after her death, but after that life got in the way, and I haven’t been back for a long time. I need to get back there someday…
