Writing and Fitness and “Home” Work Oh My…

My Update for the Past few Months

Good morning Medium followers! I apologize for my absence the past few months. They have been very busy, so it’s been hard for me to write for Medium as often as I’d like. I’ve been working on several areas of my life, including improving my fitness, increasing my writing income, and working on my house.

For a while, I was working on increasing my step goal. But in August, I started doing Chalene Johnson’s Turbofire workout, and I’ve seen some great results from that. I’ve lost a few inches, but more importantly, I’ve also hit or exceeded my intensity minute goal of 150 four times over the past few months. I’m hoping to continue doing that as I work on other workouts. I’ve got about two weeks left in Turbofire, and then I may take a break from Beachbody workouts and do a YouTube walking and running workout for a bit. Check out my intensity minutes for the past month:

A few weeks ago I entered a writing contest that the NUHA Foundation had going on. My entry is up on their website, feel free to check it out and comment and share:

I’ve also been working on increasing my income from writing and proofreading in other ways. I’ve been doing a lot of proofreading for my private proofreading client, and I’m working on finding more proofreading work, as well as writing work. I’ve been doing a lot of writing on Textbroker — that’s actually been one of my main sources of writing income lately, although a few months ago I did do a little writing for CopyPress. I’m still waiting to see if I get more work from them, but so far I haven’t gotten any.

I also met my original writing and proofreading income goal for this year. My goal was to make at least $600 from writing and proofreading for the year, and I’ve now surpassed that. I’m up to about $680, including some that I haven’t been paid yet.

My husband and I both have continued to work hard on our house. My husband has been traveling quite a bit for work, but when he’s home he does what he can. Since has arrived he doesn’t have to worry about mowing as much because the grass isn’t growing. He mowed one last time this past weekend; when he comes home again he won’t have to mow. We’ve been working on other things for the house too. I made a few picture collages of some of our baby pictures, here’s mine:

I also want to get two more frames like these and frame our 8x10 baby pictures in them, with the mats in them this time. I also cleaned out a bunch of my CDs and a few DVDS and sold them to a website I found called SecondSpin — they gave the best deals for selling them that I could find.

So far, I’ve read 13 books this year, and I’m currently working on numbers 14 and 15. I’m currently working on reading “On Writing Well,” by William Zinsser — I’m about 78% done with that. I also read “Writing Places,” where he talks about different places he’s written and taught. They’re both very interesting reads, I definitely recommend “On Writing Well,” if you want to learn more about different ways to improve your writing. Not sure how many I’ll end up finishing by the end of the year, it will be interesting to see. I just read Dave Schools story about the books he’s read that influenced his life, I definitely plan to read a lot of those, including his book.

That’s my update for the past few months. I hope to start updating more regularly, but it may be challenging with the holiday season just around the corner. I look forward to reading more, and to providing updates on my goal progress.

I started writing in elementary school and never stopped. I enjoy sharing stories about my hard-learned life lessons and writing advice.
